Uptick In Yellowfin Sales Boosts Cape Verde’s Exports
Cape Verde’s Export Price Index saw a 26 percent spike in August, from the previous month in 2024, due to its high yellowfin sales. This led to the Terms of Trade Index (the value of a country’s total exports minus total imports) to rise by over 100 points last month, according to the Portuguese news agency Lusa. However, it did not specify the numbers of other months for a comparison. Until August, yellowfin was not among the most exported items from Cape Verde but in August its sales increased. “This had a strong influence both on the turnover and price,” reported the news site.
Cape Verde exports canned tuna products to the EU, mainly Spain, and other international markets. Atunlo has a plant in the African nation. Cape Verde’s artisanal fishers are known to catch yellowfin by handline.
