Ricardo Fuentes’ New Freezing Vessel Begins Full-Fledged Operations

15 January 2025

Spanish bluefin company Ricardo Fuentes-owned ultra-low temperature (ULT) vessel ‘Madre Antonia’ made its first call at the port in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria earlier this week. The vessel started partial operations in September last and is the fourth vessel to freeze and store bluefin of the company, a family-owned business. The boat can store fish at -60 degrees Celsius. ‘Princesa Guayarmina’, ‘Paloma Reefer,’ and ‘Princesa Guasimara’ are similar vessels in the company’s fleet. ‘Madre Antonia’ is named after the matriarch of the family. The 88-meter long and 12-meter-wide vessel was built in the Niigata Shipyard in Japan.

A spokesperson for Ricardo Fuentes said owning a ULT vessel is always a source of pride. A company statement read: “With the latest technology in freezing systems, this ship reinforces our leadership in the sector and allows us to take another step in improving our activity.”
