Over 1.2 Tons Of Cocaine In Tuna Shipments Seized In Ecuador
The Ecuadorian police seized over 1.2 tons of cocaine in canned tuna shipments headed to the Vigo Port. ‘Operation Poseidón LXIII’ was carried out on December 24. Officials discovered black plastic bundles containing 1,264 rectangular packages of cocaine worth over EUR 30 million. Details regarding whether the culprits were nabbed was not revealed.
Ecuador is one of the largest sellers of tuna products in the EU and the US. The nation’s tuna sector has been grappling with the problem of criminals hiding cocaine and other drugs in canned tuna shipments. Over the years, millions of euros worth of drugs have been confiscated by officials.
