New Zealand Seeks “Public Submissions” On Tuna Fishing Treaty
The New Zealand government recently announced that it is seeking public submissions ahead of amending Annex II of the “Treaty on Fisheries between the governments of certain Pacific Island States and the US.” The treaty is a regional fisheries agreement that gives the US access to fish for tuna in the EEZs of the Pacific Island Parties (PIPs). New Zealand is one of the PIP members.
Annex II covers issues such as the number of vessels, their licenses, and regional terms and conditions. The New Zealand government sometimes seeks comments from the general public when changes are being made to policies or legislation. The deadline to send written submissions is January 23, 2025.
