ICCAT And ICES To Collaborate On Sustainable Tuna Stocks Management

ICCAT is taking a step forward for the sustainable management of tuna stocks. Earlier this week, the RFMO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES). The agreement focused on promoting four areas in the Atlantic Ocean: One, ecosystem-based fisheries management. Two, climate change research. Three, biodiversity conservation. Four, stock assessments, and management strategy evaluations. This would be done through information exchange, joint scientific initiatives, and sharing of expertise. ICES is a global organization that studies the ocean and its marine life.
Camille Jean Pierre Manel, ICCAT Executive Secretary, said the MoU would enhance the quality of stock assessments and aims to support better-informed management decisions. Manel explained: “We are confident that its implementation will help address our shared challenges,” reported news sites.
