The city of Mazatlán in Mexico and its port, home to numerous tuna vessels, has been encompassed by a fog bank over the past week. Port authorities closed the harbor for small vessels last Thursday. But now, they have been intermittently implementing restrictions on the navigation of small and large tuna and other fishing vessels. The fog, which is present in the morning, gradually disperses during the day.

A spokesperson from the Mazatlán Civil Protection, a government agency responsible for emergency response, disaster prevention, and public safety in the city, said the fog bank is not a major concern as they occur during this time of the year. However, citizens were asked to be cautious as the weather condition is expected to last for a few more days. A fog bank is a thick, dense mass of fog that appears like a cloud hovering over land. It is typically found over bodies of water or coastal areas, forming when warm, moist air moves over a cooler surface, causing condensation.
