FDA Found “Adulterated” Tuna Products At Chinese Processing Plant
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected the Rongcheng Jiayuan Foods canned food facility in Shandong, China, on November 9 and 10. The agency found that canned tuna products, manufactured in the facility, were adulterated. “They were prepared, packed, or held under conditions whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health,” read an FDA statement. It further added the list of other violations including the failure to adhere to regulations such as HACCP and Emergency Permit Control. The company produces low-acid canned products for the US market which are defined as foods that undergo a thermal process before being placed in an airtight container.
The FDA explained in its statement on November 12 that if the Chinese company does not take adequate action, it will take steps to deny entry of its tuna products into the US. The agency stated: “To date, FDA has not received a response from you regarding the inspectional observations documented during the inspection of your facility.”
