Angola Buys Spanish-Made Seiner
Spanish shipyard Astilleros del Ulla delivered a tuna purse seiner to Angola last week. The 23.95 meter long ‘Delta II’ has already arrived in its home port of Namibe. The vessel was built with glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) and fitted with the latest electronics, according to the owner’s requirements. With a 128.7 gross tonnage, it is one of the largest vessels constructed by the small shipyard and the first one sold to this country.
The vessel accommodates 16 crew members and is not yet listed in the ICCAT vessel registry. But it could also meant that the boat might only operate in the nation’s EEZ. Angola has abundant resources in its waters and mostly foreign fishing vessels fish for tuna. The country has no fishing agreement with the EU, so EU vessels fish in its waters through private agreements.
