Vietnam increased its canned tuna exports to all markets in the second half of 2024 hitting USD 299 million, a record for this period. The US, Israel, Germany, Lebanon, and Egypt were the five major destinations, accounting for over 62 percent of the total export turnover. This climb is despite the challenges faced last year by the Asian nation’s tuna sector, revealed the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). However, the tonnages sold were not provided.

Vietnamese traders stated that the demand for canned tuna is increasing in most markets, but there are several challenges that lie ahead including the competition between supply sources “which is increasingly fierce.” Atuna reported last week that some other issues included the struggle to remove the EU yellow card and the need to adhere to the government regulation stating that they can only catch skipjack above 50 cm.
