StarKist Cannery Resumes Production With High Employee Turnout

09 January 2025

StarKist American Samoa started production on Monday, the first day of operations for this year. According to a cannery official, there was a high turnout for work with 90 percent of employees returning to the plant. In previous years, the factory had difficulties meeting production quotas just after year-end holidays, reported Talanei. Last year, the cannery had to send a chartered vessel to retrieve its workers from Samoa as they refused to return to their jobs after the vacation.

The plant’s spokesperson, Tufuga Faafoi Palepua, said he is pleased with the employee turnout for the beginning of this year. He expects the rest of the workers after the next ship from Samoa returns on Thursday. StarKist offered tuna and food vouchers as incentives for employees to return on time.
