Maldivian Households To Get Tuna Cans For Ramadan

25 November 2024

The Maldivian government will give all households a box of tuna cans for Ramadan next year. President Mohamad Muizzu who announced this earlier this week has instructed officials from the State Trading Organization, responsible for commercial and trading activities, to issue canned tuna

instead of staple foods such as rice and flour, reported Maldivian news sites. The one-month Ramadan festival will be observed from February to March.

State-owned MIFCO is one of the largest processing plants in Maldives and produces canned tuna for the local market under the Fasmeeru brand. The company, which is currently undergoing a restructuring, tried in August to rope in foreign investors to revamp its business.
