US Coast Guard Rescues Longliner Captain With Chest Pain
The US Coast Guard recently rescued the captain of a US-flagged longliner ‘Triple Andy’ that was operating 65 miles (104 km) offshore of Honolulu in the Pacific Ocean on October 28. The agency released a video of the operation. According to the US Coast Guard, it received information stating that the 69-year-old skipper was experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain. Coast Guard officers consulted the surgeon in charge who recommended a medical evacuation (medevac). Within four hours, the medevac team arrived and transported the captain to a Honolulu hospital. He is reportedly in stable condition.
This is the second medevac in two weeks of tuna crew working on longliners. Last week, a fisher onboard ‘Pacific Dragon II’ who complained of severe abdominal pain was also air lifted to the nearest hospital.
