Mazatlan Port Handles Highest Tuna Tonnage In Recent Times

26 July 2024

The fishing operations in Mazatlan, Mexico, have been good for fishermen and port workers who unloaded a historic 14,000 tons of tuna over the last six months. Port staff claimed that this is the largest tonnage in recent times as tuna vessels arrived at the harbor since January with 900 and 1,200 tons each.

A spokesperson from the Mazatlan Port Workers Union told Mexican news sites that tuna catches in the Pacific Ocean have been good since the beginning of this year. There are over 400 staff at the harbor who engage in unloading the fish as well as other stevedoring activities. The fleet based in the Sinaloa region is one of the largest in Mexico. Pinsa Group, which owns Mexico’s most popular tuna brand, Dolores, is also headquartered in Mazatlan. It is one of the largest fishing and processing companies in this region.
