Spanish Seiner Returns To Port After Catching Fire

15 July 2024

The ‘Txori Zuri’, a purse seiner owned by the Spanish company Compania Internacional De Pesca y Derivados, S.A (Inpesca), caught fire in its main engine last week while fishing in the Indian Ocean. The vessel sailed to Port Victoria in Seychelles on its own power and did not report the incident to rescue services. No casualties were mentioned and all crew members are safe, reported Spanish news sites.

Details regarding what caused the fire and whether there were any other damages are yet to be revealed. ‘Txori Zuri’ is a 104-meter-long vessel with a 3,671 gross tonnage and flies the Spanish flag. The seiner, bought by the company in 2014, is one of the most modern fishing vessels in the Bermeo-based company’s fleet.
