The tuna industry on Eyre Peninsula is mourning the loss of one of its pioneers, Dinko Lukin.

Mr. Lukin died this morning after a long illness.

The chief executive of the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Association, Brian Jeffries, says Mr. Lukin’s dedication and commitment to the industry has left a lasting legacy.

“People like Dinko went through a roller-coaster ride of the industry being in very difficult times and he could have easily sold out for tens of million dollars and taken that to the Gold Coast and had a cushy life,” he said.

“He had a great belief in the tuna stock and now, after his death, has been proven to be correct.”

Mr. Lukin was the father of Australia’s only super-heavyweight weightlifting Olympic gold medallist, Dean Lukin.
