ISSF announced it feels that momentum continues to build for a global approach to improving the sustainability of the world’s tuna resources, as a Spanish processor and a cannery from Thailand are the latest to join the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation. The addition of Salica Industria Alimentaria, S.A. and RS Cannery Co., Ltd brings the number of ISSF Participating Companies to 15.
“Industry participation is paramount as we move toward even more sustainable fishing practices and improved management and we welcome Salica and R.S. Cannery's participation,†ISSF President Susan Jackson said.
“We work with partners in every region of the world and that is important to our approach. Tuna sustainability is a global concern and attacking challenges market-by-market or fishery-by-fishery would leave us with a patchwork of approaches. Coordinating our efforts among different stakeholders from around the world brings a well-rounded cache of ideas and knowledge to help deliver solutions that can be applied consistently.â€
Salica’s main presence is in European markets under private labels, as well as its own brands Campos and Bachi. R.S. Cannery supplies tuna products to markets in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Japan and the Middle East. The companies successfully completed an audit to ensure compliance with ISSF standards, including the maintenance of a credible traceability scheme.
