PNA To Start Crew Training For Pacific Tuna Vesselsff

Papua New Guinea Source: Radio NZ The PNA, A group of eight tuna fishing nations in the Central and Western Pacific plan to open a school to train fishing crews.
The members of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement say they want ten percent of crews on trawlers to be Pacific Islanders as part of new moves to control the activities of distant water fishing nations.
Its chair, Papua New Guinea’s Ludwig Kumoru, says to have more Pacific Islanders on boats they will need skilled people and therefore set up the PNA Crewing Agency in Kiribati.
“With the trained crew then we can tackle this problem about the ten percent program. So then the distant water fishing nations will have to have trained crew who have some formal standard.â€
