Gilontas Indonesia To Set-Up Operations In Fijiff

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has assured that Gilontas Ocean in Indonesia will set-up operations in Fiji, according to a Ministry of Information statement.

Commodore Bainimarama and his delegation visited the head office and operation base of the fishing company on Friday after opening the Fiji mission office in Jakarta.

The Fiji delegation was briefed and toured the processing facility which exports tuna species to the US, Japan and Europe.

According to the statement, Gilontas Ocean had been in operation in Indonesia for the past 35 years and was also setting up operations in the country. The company has been successful in Indonesia through the creation of synergies with the local authorities and communities in all aspects of its operations.

The statement said Gilontas respected and adhered to conserving stocks, protection of the environment and also complied with rigorous standards pertaining to the EU.

The Prime Minister emphasized the development of the fisheries sector, focusing on Fiji's tuna industry and how Gilontas could enhance prospects for economic and social advancement for rural and marine-based communities.
