Peru’s exports of canned tuna (including tuna and barrilete) in 2010 posted a 65.1 percent increase to US$10 million over the previous year, consulting firm Maximixe reported Friday.
In terms of volume, canned tuna exports showed a 42.7 percent rise, reaching 2,500 metric tons.
The growth in shipments was driven by a higher demand in Colombia (295.7 percent jump of exports in terms of volume), Italy (243.3 percent) and Spain (3.9 percent).
Furthermore, exports to the United Kingdom resumed last year, contributing to boost shipments.
The two major exporting companies were Seafrost (63.4 percent), Austral Group (30.8 percent), Seven Stars Corporation (4.2 percent) and Tecnológica de Alimentos (0.8 percent).
