Germany and the UK top the MSC ranking as countries with the highest amount of local fisheries being MSC certified.
The Netherlands is third on the Marine Stewardship Council’s list of countries where the seafood industry has adopted sustainable methods of catching and processing fish.
Some 50% of Dutch fishing firms are either MSC certified or are having their applications assessed and all herring and mackerel catches are now covered.
Worldwide, some 7% of fish for human consumption has been caught in line with the MSC’s guidelines.
