A grain ship which hit and sank a tuna boat this month has sailed from Port Lincoln in South Australia.

The Grand Rodosi sank the Apollo S while berthing at Port Lincoln's main wharf.

The grain ship was then arrested as part of a $28 million legal action over the accident.

But the ship sailed from the wharf on Sunday with a full load of grain.

The Federal Court said the arrest order was dropped to allow the departure.

The tuna boat owner, Australian Fishing Enterprises, filed documents allowing for the grain ship's release, a court official said.

An official report on the maritime accident is not expected for several months.
