Top Liverpool food and drink group Princes has opened a new Polish office to accelerate Continental expansion.

Princes Polska, based in Warsaw, will cover sales, marketing and category management expertise.

This will strengthen Princes’ retail and wholesale customer support across Central and Eastern Europe. It will promote Princes own-name brands, Napolina Italian foods and cooking-oil products.

Princes, which has an annual turnover of more than £1 Billion, also plans local acquisitions and partnerships.

The new office will report to Princes BV, the group’s Continental European headquarters in Rotterdam, established in 1989.

Princes, with its global headquarters at Royal Liver Building, Pier Head, is already active in Poland and other central and eastern European markets with a broad portfolio of brands and products.

The new Polish office will provide support for the group’s comprehensive development plans.

Ken Critchley, Princes managing director, said: “Princes is targeting growth in mainland European retail, wholesale and food manufacturing markets. Our strategy is to expand through partnerships, joint-ventures and selective strategic acquisitions. Princes Polska gives us a strong platform in the region and it will work closely with our European customers.”

Princes started business in 1880 and other brands include Vier Diamanten canned fish, Crisp 'n Dry, Mazola cooking oil, Flora margarine, Shippam’s spreads, Jucee squash, Ocean Spray juices and Aqua-Pura mineral water. The company owns Princes Tuna Mauritius cannery, on the Indian Ocean island, two UK food manufacturing sites, a joint venture with ADM for two vegetable and olive oil bottling sites, and five soft drink and mineral water sites.

Princes is owned by the Mitsubishi Corporation, which is Japan’s largest general trading company.
