Sustainability of tuna resources, market expansion and government expansion efforts in supporting the tuna industry are among the major issues to be discussed at the 5th Philippine National Tuna Congress.
Scheduled in General Santos City for September 4 and 5, the event will be a venue for stakeholders to tackle strategies for the sustainability of the Philippine fishing industry.
The 5th Philippine National Tuna Congress is jointly organized by the General Santos City Government, the Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM), the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Other items in the conference agenda include updates on the latest status and development in the fishing industry at the international, domestic and regional levels as wells as updates on the Philippine participation in the multilateral high level conference (MHLC) on highly migratory fish stocks in the western and central Pacific regions.
The congress will also feature exhibits featuring latest technologies, products and services of the industry. To date no program has been published yet.
Renne Subido, congress secretariat head, said they are expecting more than 500 chief executive officers, fish producers, exporters and buyers during the congress.
