LATEST NEWS: Infofish Evaluating Bangkok Situation On World Tuna Conferenceff

21 April 2010 Thailand

By Atuna

During the last 36 hours rumors have started circulating in the global tuna industry scene about a possible postponement of the 11th Infofish World Tuna Trade Conference in Bangkok – that is scheduled to be held from May 20th to May 22nd in Bangkok- at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre which is close to Central World Shopping Mall in down town area of Bangkok.

These rumors are fueled by news that THAIFEX - the Thai Food Fair which is to be held from May 12th to May 16th – is to be cancelled or postponed due to unstable political situation in Thailand and the related protests in the centre of Bangkok. However the website of THAIFEX has no official announcement of such decision yet.

According to the latest information available to atuna.com, indeed the World Tuna Conference TUNA 2010 BANGKOK is to be held in an area close to where the demonstrators have been located, and indeed authorities had closed off the area around the Centara Hotel for the last 2 weeks. However the latest news from Bangkok is that the area has either been cleared now or is in the process of being cleared by the local authorities.

Rumors are circulating about a postponement to early July or October 2010.

Latest news from Infofish is that they are denying these rumors and that no decisions have been taken about a possible postponement. However they confirm that they are closely in touch with the local authorities and their other contacts in Bangkok to asses and evaluate the local security situation and follow the latest developments on the ground to ensure the full safety of the attendees to their Conference.

Based on the outcome of this ongoing evaluation, and before the end of this week, Infofish hopes to release an official press release with their final position, which will largely depend on the advice given by the local Thai authorities.
