StarKist Co., needing more space as it expands after re-estabishing its headquarters in Pittsburgh, will move to the Equitable Gas Building on the North Shore.
The move, from the Del Monte Building, also on the North Shore, will be made this summer, said spokeswoman Mary Sestric. StarKist has about 70 employees here and expects that to increase to 110 this year.
StarKist will occupy 32,000 square feet in the Equitable building, up from about 18,000 square feet in the Del Monte Building.
StarKist was purchased in 2008 from Del Monte Food Co. by South Korean conglomerate Dongwon Enterprises Co. Ltd. At that time, the decision was made to bring the company's headquarters back from San Francisco, where it had been moved several years before from Pittsburgh.
A skeleton crew remained in Pitsburgh consisting of operations and research and development personnel.
In November 2008, StarKist, Ingu Park, vice chairman of Dongwon, said the new owners planned to expand StarKist's product line beyond tuna and to capitalize on StarKist's 37 percent tuna market share in the United States.
