Around 100 of the world's top scientists are on the Sunshine Coast of Australia this week discussing the state of the world's tuna and billfish fisheries.
The International Standing Committee of tuna and billfish will focus on the latest information and fishing methods used on tuna stocks in the Pacific.
Australia’s East Coast Tuna Boat Owners Association executive director Hans Jusseit says it will allow authorities to plan for the responsible management of tuna and billfish stocks in coming years.
"Well the forum's aim is to provide a report on what the status of the stocks are in the tuna and billfish fisheries and they've been doing that now for over 15 years to keep a ... scientific analysis check on what's happening with the stocks, so management decisions can be made and people know exactly what's going on," he said.
