The American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono says he is still hopeful the Fono will have a change of heart on his proposal for his Government to acquire the assets of the shut down Samoa Packing tuna canning plant, the former Chicken of the Sea (COS).
The Governor says workers who lost their jobs when Samoa Packing closed would have been back in work by now if his plan to buy the plant had not been held back.
But he says he would try to work with the Fono again and hopefully when the Legislature convenes next month there would be a new outlook to help restore lost jobs.
Just before the cannery was shut down in September the Governor proposed five million US dollars of government money be used to buy its assets.
But both the House and Senate rejected the plan at a special session of the legislature held in October.
