The Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association said that there are still too many environmental concerns regarding the iron ore exports from Port Lincoln.

According to the ASBTIA, research into the potential environmental impacts of the mine shows there were many unanswered questions.

The ASBTIA said that the iron ore export approval made a joke of the government’s own strategic plan, stating there would be no negative impact on the seafood industry. The ASBTIA claims if the government was confident there would be no negative impact on the seafood industry, it should underwrite the economic risk.

According to the government, all environmental considerations were taken into account when drafting the conditions of the development.
