The fall fishing season for bluefin tuna has changed yet again in P.E.I.
The season, originally set to begin on Oct. 5, and delayed until Oct. 8, is now set to start Oct. 10 at 7 a.m., according to the P.E.I. Fishermen's Association.
It will close at midnight the same day, re-open on Oct. 12 and then continue until the 100 ton-quota is landed, or until the season ends on Oct. 19, the association said.
Fishermen have been trying to arrange the season to ensure the best quality and the best price.
The fishermen voted in favor of delaying the opening of the fall fishing season because there was an abundance of fish and they were concerned about flooding the market with too much supply and depressing prices.
The delay is intended to allow the large schools of tuna to disperse.
Fishermen have voluntarily limited landings to one fish per day per boat.
There are about 300 licensed tuna fishermen expected to take part in the fishery this year.
