Malta Hosts Conference Of The European Fisheries Economists ff

The XIXth International Conference of the European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE; www.eafe-fish.eu) was held in Malta between 6-8 July, attended by 60 participants from 18 countries. It was jointly organised by EAFE and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs with the collaboration of the Malta Centre for Fisheries Sciences (MCFS).

The conference was intended to promote discussion among researchers, managers, policy makers and other stakeholders in the fisheries sector.

The specific themes of the conference were past, present and future of property rights in European fisheries.

A special session was chaired by the European Commission (DG MARE) with discussions on the reform of the Common Fishery Policy with a round table composed of economists, biologists, administrators and stakeholders.

One other important session in the conference was a theme on tuna ranching and other emerging aquaculture methods which was chaired by Professor Carmelo Agius from the Department of Biology of the University of Malta.
