The two vessels belonging to the socialist joint venture Fisheries Company Pesquera Industrial del Alba (ALBA) caught 7.6 tons of tuna, surpassing the average tuna catch expected for their pilot stage. This concerned the vessels “Marino” and “Bermudez”.

The figure of 7.6 tons of tuna, which both vessels fished together, exceeds the average of each, fixed at 3.2 tons, indicated the president of the Socialist Fisheries and Aquaculture Institute (INSOPESCA) of Venezuela, Gilberto Gimenez.

According to the official, the cold storage capacity of the vessel “Marino” is 80 tons, whereas “Bermudez” can hold 35 tons, in addition to the average catch capacity per their respective openwork.

According to Gimenez, the vessels’ tuna landings at port were estimated at 2.3 tons and 5.3 tons, respectively. These catches are to be processed at the Tuna Center located in Cumana, so that the Venezuelan population can purchase fish at “socialist”prices.

He said that the catches reached by the two vessels surpassed the expectations, given that this voyage took place within a pilot plan where the marine crewmembers are fishermen in the industrial fisheries of trawlers who were unemployed at that time.

The INSOPESCA president also announced that, within approximately three months, ALBA will have another five vessels, reaching a total of seven boats for the fishery of tuna.

He also informed that the government
is managing the acquisition of three more vessels to target jack mackerel, each with a capacity of 80,000 tons, which will sail off towards the Southern East Pacific.

Del mismo modo, recordó que estos alimentos serán destinados a las Unidades de Producción Socialista (UPS), pertenecientes al Gobierno Nacional, a fin de contribuir con la seguridad agroalimentaria de la nación.

Finally, he also indicated that the harvests of both vessels will be counted as Socialist Production Units (UPS) of the Venezuelan government, which fosters the goal of guaranteeing the security and food sovereignty of the country.
