The construction of new storage facilities for Ricardo Fuentes e Hijos has commenced in the wharf of Cadiz, Spain. The building will consist of space for the storage, distribution and sales of frozen and processed fish.
Ricardo Fuentes e Hijos, S.A. located in Murcia, Spain is one of the leading companies processing and commercialising high quality tuna and counts on a parcel of 3,300 square meters in concession in the wharf Fernandez Ladreda, where it will construct the facilities.
According to reports, within about 12 months, the canning company will be selling fresh fish directly off the fishing wharf and at the same time will be offering new elaborated products processed in their new facilities, something which is currently not yet being done and will be a response to the market’s demand.
With this project, the tuna canning company will be increasing its current refrigerating storage capacity to 7,000 cubic meters for frozen fish and to 700 for fresh fish. In addition, these facilities will allow freezer vessels to unload their fish directly at the port of Cadiz.
The Murcia tuna cannery currently already counts with premises located at the port of Cadiz with a surface of 543 m2, however the new important expansion has taken them to ask for a concession to construct a new ship in the fishing wharf. The warehouse will involve an investment superior to 1.5 million euros and will generate an annual traffic of approximately 5,000 tons of frozen and salted fish. The facilities will consist of an antechamber with access to two freezing chambers at –25 degrees Celsius; a thawing chamber; processing chamber divided in a clean product section and an unclean product section; packaging room; a chamber for fresh fish and another chamber for salted product.
Furthermore, the facility will create about 15 new jobs at the fishing docks (in addition to the indirect job openings).
