American Samoa's House of Representatives has rejected legislation to impose a tax on tuna off-loaded in Pago Pago from foreign vessels.
The Pacific News Service, Pacnews, reports the Senate bill would have imposed a 20 per cent import tax on the tuna. House members say that would prevent foreign vessels from supplying the US territory's two tuna canneries, which could devastate the economy.
Similar bills, passed by the Senate in the last three years, have also failed to make it through the House
