Ecuador
Ecuador’s tuna sector has experienced a decrease in export sales of canned tuna to the United States. The sales of Ecuadorian tuna reached 14.6 million dollars between January and February of 2002, but dropped to 3.86 million, in the same period of this year. The main reason for this trend are the slow catches of tuna in Ecuador, as well as the much lower prices of the skipjack raw material in Asia, compared to the Eastern Pacific.
