31 July 2008
Canada The 2008 giant bluefin tuna season was set to open Wednesday in Prince Edward Island.
Fishermen are taking a slightly different approach to this year’s fishery in hopes of spreading out the catches and capturing the prime market periods.
The total quota for Island fishers this year is 150 tons, up from 147 tons in 2007.
Also, the fishermen have agreed to limit their activity on the water to a five-day fishing week from Monday through Friday.
There will be a limit of one fish per boat per day.
