Algarve Tunaff

28 July 2008 Portugal
Tuna caught by Algarve fishermen, traditionally exported to Japan, is now being sent to other European countries.

Around 95 per cent of the catch now goes to Europe, with London and Amsterdam as the main markets.

According to local fishing organisations, the change results from an increase in the number of Japanese restaurants in Europe and the increase in international fuel costs.
