Maldives Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has stated that even though the prices of the company’s canned products are on the rise, citizens need to worry as the company also offers cheaper alternatives.
Media coordinator of MIFCO Abdulla Maumoon speaking to Miadhu Daily said that despite the increase in the company’s canned fish products, other cheaper alternatives are available from their shops. Maumoon further said MIFCO always strives to provide their products at affordable prices to the citizens.
“Even though the prices of our canned products has increased, other cheaper products which can be used as an alternative are available, people can use tuna flankes instead of buying one tin of ‘Felivarumas’ for Rf15.25. Tuna flankes are available for just Rf.5. People can use frozen blocks instead of buying ‘value packs’. There are many other options†Maumoon said.
According to MIFCO restaurants and other food outlets can use cheaper alternatives in order to bring down the prices of dishes sold to customers.
“We used to eat some rice and ‘dark’ fish; so we don’t necessarily have to have the best option, we can use cheaper alternatives, which just as good and nutritious, to produce many dishes to keep the cost down and offer customers dishes at reduced prices†Maumoon noted.
Maumoon further said every effort will made to bring down the prices for the Ramazan, and that if fish catch is good during the Ramazan period then the prices of canned fish will also come down. He revealed that studies are underway to see if the fish can be packed in another material instead of tin in an effort to bring the prices down.
