Climate Change Producing Fat Australian Tunaff

Australia’s tuna industry says climate change could be increasing the size of the fish.

The chief executive of the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Association Brian Jeffries says this year has been excellent for quality and fish size.

Mr. Jeffries says this can be partly attributed to climate change and its effect on feed species such as sardines in the Great Australian Bight.

He says oceanographers have never seen south easterly winds like they have this year, which forces nutrients to the surface.

The ocean’s food chain feeds on the swells of nutrients, and the tuna, at the top of that chain, benefits immensely.
