The President of the Ecuadorian National Fisheries Chamber, César Rohón, denounced earlier this week the theft, in the Port of Guayaquil, of 1,835 cases of canned tuna (containing 48 tins each).
Rohón indicated that three containers loaded in Manta, embarked at the Main Port Guayaquil with destination France. Upon arrival in France, it was made known that one of the containers was carrying sand bags, instead of tuna.
He also commented that the product was removed without even loosening the security seals. "It is not possibleâ€. Load robberies are not only taking place at the harbor, but also on the road.
The manager of the Guayaquil Harbor Authority, retired captain,Jorge Fierro, said that it is practically impossible to steel such an amount of tuna cases at port. The load is equivalent to 17 tons of weight, which means that quite a lot of personnel is needed to transfer both the tuna and sand loads.
Fierro has asked Rohón for further information in order to solve this matter and trusts on keeping continued close and permanent dialogue with the fisheries sector.
