Solomon Minister Urges Greenpeace To Continue Actions Against Tuna Overfishingff

25 April 2008 Solomon Islands

The crew of the Greenpeace flagship, Esperanza, has been given a welcome at Honiara’s international shipping port in a ceremony attended by the Solomon Islands Minister for Environment, Conservation and Meteorology, Gordon Darcy Lilo.

The Esperanza is on a voyage in the Pacific to protest against United States and Southeast Asian fishing vessels over-fishing tuna stocks in Pacific waters.

During his visit aboard Esperanza, Mr. Lilo said he was alarmed to hear reports of unregulated fishing in the international waters north of Solomon Islands.

He urged the Esperanza crew to continue with what he called its courageous programs to ensure unregulated and illegal fishing in the Pacific Seas was brought to world attention.
