Solomons To Continue Salted Tuna Salesff

15 April 2008 Solomon Islands

The sale of controversial salted tuna fish in the Solomons’ capital Honiara will continue despite a series of health concerns.

According to local news, the Honiara City Council Executive agreed to allow the fish to remain on sale, despite allegations that fish has been sold in substandard condition and may pose a health risk.

Deputy Mayor Jim Sevesi says the council will allow the sale of salt fish at the market until police, customs or other government agencies advises otherwise.

He says the executive also reaffirmed that all produce sold at the market must comply with health regulations and council by-laws.
