GenSan Hosts International Training On EU Fishery Standardsff

The city once more strengthens its position as the Philippines’ Tuna Capital as it hosts the “International Training of Food (Fishery) Standards” on April 22-24, 2008.

More than 60 foreign delegates and 150 Filipinos are expected to attend this training which has traditionally been held in several countries all over the globe. It aims to harmonize understanding of the European Union regulations and standards and serves as a venue to clarify issues and problems in the implementation of food safety and quality measures for fishery products that are intended for the European market.

According to GenSan City Mayor Pedro B. Acharon, Jr., he has directed all concerned offices under the local government to link up with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, under Region XII, the event's major proponent to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the gathering.

Delegates to this 3-day event are representatives from the Competent Authorities of the participating countries and international experts in the field of food safety management.

Organizing the event together with the Department of Agriculture are the European Consortium, AETS and the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
