Fiji’s has recorded a 41 percent jump in exports to the United States between 2006 and 2007, according to the Foreign Trade Bureau of the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Fiji Times reports that Fiji’s exports to the U.S. grew by USD 5.85 million to USD 19.98 million in November 2007.
Significant increases were recorded for tuna loins (42 per cent), minerals (150 per cent), fresh and frozen fish (17 per cent) and cassava and vegetables (22 per cent).
Fiji’s Trade Commissioner in Los Angeles, Ilisoni Vuidreketi said Fiji was on track to achieve a five per cent growth in 2007.
â€But for the longer term, Fiji needs to promptly nurture and develop high yield export industries,†Vuidrekei says.
