Salica Introduces New Plastics Packaging For Tuna Mealsff

8 January 2008 Spain

RPC Bebo UK Corby and RPC Barrier Containers France have provided new plastics packaging for major Spanish fish processor Salica.

These new packaging containers allow its range of tuna-based ready meals to be heated directly in the microwave.

The range comprises tuna balls in two different sauce flavors - tomato and pepper and a Spanish sauce - which are carefully sterilized to ensure that they taste as good as fresh tuna. Previously packaged in a metal tin, Salica was keen to relaunch the range into a ready meal format that can be prepared without the consumer having to remove the contents from the packaging.

RPC Bebo UK Corby is supplying a 350ml Royal bowl, thermoformed in white PP/EVOH/PP. Fully microwaveable, the container’s barrier properties also make it ideal for ambient storage for a longer shelf life without the need for refrigeration.

The project was developed in close technical cooperation with RPC Barrier Containers France to ensure the successful sterilization, filling and sealing of the products.

RPC Barrier Containers, Fontenilles, France, leads the market in barrier technology and innovation to produce a range of solutions that keeps products fresher for longer. If you are looking for safer, more convenient lightweight packaging, RPC will provide the solution.

Multi-layer plastics packaging from RPC offers an effective barrier against oxygen ingress and provides the necessary strength to allow hot fill, pasteurization, sterilization and aseptic filling.
