COS Introduces Genova Brand All-Natural, Gourmet-Style Tunaff

U.S. Consumers looking for all-natural, healthful protein sources with gourmet flavor have been provided a new option with Chicken of the Sea International’s new Genova brand of premium, Italian-style tuna and salmon.

Rich in omega-3 and low in fat and calories, the Genova gourmet brand of all-natural yellowfin and albacore tuna, and sockeye salmon is wild caught from deep waters and contains no additives or preservatives.

Sold under the Genova brand, which currently includes solid light tuna in olive oil, the four new products include: solid light tuna in water, solid white tuna in olive oil, solid white tuna in water, and skinless boneless red salmon in water – all in 6-ounce cans. Suggested retail price is $1.99 for solid light tuna in water, $2.49 for solid white tuna in water and solid white tuna in oil, and $3.99 for skinless and boneless red salmon in water.

”Tuna and salmon are inherently healthy seafood options, as they are low in fat and calories and filled with protein and heart-healthy omega-3,” said registered dietician Sharon McNerney. “This new line adds to the health benefits by being all natural, and those packed in antioxidant-rich olive oil have added flavor.”

In addition to its many health benefits, the new line offers gourmet taste and flavor that consumers want, said McNerney.

“Consumers don’t want to sacrifice great taste for health,” said McNerney. “This new line offers both.”

Scientific research consistently points to the health benefits of seafood. According to a new study by The Lancet, “intelligence quotients” were higher for children with mothers who ate fish during pregnancy, and the Journal of the American Medical Association states eating fish cuts the risk of death from coronary disease – the single largest killer of Americans, according to the American Heart Association – by 36 percent. The American Heart Association states consumers should “eat at least two servings of fish each week,” and the American Diabetes Association has noted as many as 20 million Americans have diabetes, and foods high in protein and omega-3, such as tuna and salmon, are important to counter the ailment’s effects.
