Nearly 1,000 fishing ships cannot enter and exit the fishing port of Ward 6 in Phu Yen Province’s Tuy Hoa City – the biggest fish port for tuna trade in the central coastal region. The blockage is due to recent rough seas that caused the Da Rang estuary to fill up with sand.
Fishing ships docking at the port cannot leave the estuary while fishing ships returning from offshore have to reroute to Vung Ro Port in Dong Hoa District or Tien Chau Port in Tuy An District to sell fish.
Tuy Hoa City still has not enacted measures to dredge the estuary bed, according to city authorities.
