Peru Considers Benefits For Discharging By Foreign Tuna Boatsff

10 January 2007 Peru

The Peruvian Minister of Production (Produce), Mr. Rafael Rey, announced that he will hold a meeting with the Economic Commission of the Peruvian Congress in order to debate and approve a law that will grant benefits to the foreign boats discharging and processing their tuna catches in Peru.

Mr. Rey also said that he expected to be invited to hold a meeting with the Economic Commission during the next days, when he can explain the objectives of this Produce initiative, approved last year by the Parliament Group of Production.

Mr. Rey indicated that the opposing arguments brought up by the Financial and Economic Bureau have no weight and it’s not the first nor will it be the last disagreement his project obtains. His task is to create a real tuna industry in Peru, beneficial to all companies.
