Tuna Float And Exhibition In Victoriaff

19 October 2006 Seychelles

The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) sought to sensitize Seychellois to eat more tuna through a small float that went through the city of Victoria, and an exhibition held at Codevar building on Saturday.

Nutritionists mounted a stall at the exhibition where they joined SFA in promoting the eating of tuna, but advised the population to give preference to fresh over canned tuna.

One of them, Sarah Romain, told visitors that tuna is one of the “oily” fish which contain the essential amino acid Omega-3, but said that the acids are reduced to levels similar to those of white fish if the tuna is canned.

With portions of the prepared fish that the guests could sample, she and other nutritionists showed visitors to the exhibition how tuna should be prepared for maximum benefit.

The Indian Ocean Tuna Commission also had a stand where they reminded people that the project to tag tuna in a major research is still ongoing.

The Indian Ocean Tuna cannery, for its part, displayed the various kinds of canned tuna that they sell both locally and overseas, and sold some of the tuna to visitors, at reduced prices.
