American Samoa Cannery Recruits First Of 300 New Workersff

11 July 2006 American Samoa

StarKist Samoa General Manager Brett Butler is pleased with the results of their heavy recruitment drive over the last few months.

The cannery is close to filling 200 fish cleaner slots, which it has been trying since January to fill.

Butler said they have hired 170 so far. He said the recruitment drive is continuing and they are aiming to fill a full quota of 300 new employees. The general manager Butler said more people seem to be looking for work after the graduation season. The cannery is not scheduling any further shutdowns in the next few months.

Starkist does not share the high inventory problem that had forced Samoa Packing to close Mondays for the whole month of June.
