Intercepted Illegal Tuna Distributed Among The Poor ff

21 April 2006 Colombia

The Colombian Authorities informed that about 50 tons of tuna and shark meat that entered illegally into Colombia from Japan would be released to people from the poorest neighborhoods in Cartagena de Indias.

The Police Commander of the Bolivar Department at Northern Colombia, Colonel Mauricio Agudelo, indicated that the fish –which was caught just a day earlier- was fit for human consumption, so it was decided that it be given to a charitable entity. “We want the Custom Authority to release this merchandise to charity so it can be shared among the needy population”.

The shipment of fish consisted of tuna and shark fins that were going to be sold in Colombia during the Easter Holidays. The fish was worth USD 326,000.
